1080p Sharp LCD
By Anne Ahira
You might think all you need to know about a television is who made it and how big you want it to be. Truth is it is not nearly that simple! If it were, you likely would not be reading this review, then writers would be out of a job!
All joking aside it can be a nightmare looking at televisions and choosing one then finding out you could have had a much nicer unit for less money. The 1080p Sharp LCD is just such an example.
Sharp has a very nice line of Aquos model sets. They range in size from 37-inch to a whopping 65-inch. Problem is each time they upgrade a bit the television goes up in price. Case in point, the 1080p Sharp LCD LC65SE94U versus the LC65D64U, (what a mouth full!).
Both of these televisions are 65 inches, 1080p, HDMI hook ups as well as S video and component ports. There are just a few differences in the units:
LC65SE94U
- Price- $4995- $6400
- Contrast ration- 27,000:1
- 120 HZ frame rate
LC65D64U
- Price-$2795
- 10,000:1 contrast ratio
- 4ms response time
The main differences here are the price and the dynamic contrast ratio. The first is a matter of choice of the consumer. The second, contrast ratio, is basically the difference between the blackest black the the whitest white on a television. The higher the contrast ratio the crisper the picture will be. That being said you have to weigh the slight difference in picture with the price. At close to double the money in the median range, it really is not worth it. For a great 1080p Sharp LCD television look no further than the LC65D64U set.
The Good
Of course, the first good point is the price, for the same amount of money you would give for a smaller set you receive 65 inches of true high def viewing pleasure. Great resolution and a 3:2 pull down feature reduces artifacts from DVD and other inputs.
The Bad
Volume control does not come up automatically; it takes a minute for the set to adjust after being turned on. This while a bit annoying is actually done to protect the speakers from damage.
A few people complained of fumes when the set was first hooked up; however, out of hundreds of reviews this came in as a problem of only one or two people.
The Bottom Line
Huge television, great picture and at a fraction of what most 65 inch big screens will cost you. If you need a big 1080p Sharp LCD TV then this my friend is the one for you. Customers began raving about this set up to 6 years ago and the trend has seen no slow down.
