About the 15 LCD TV
By Anne Ahira
If you have ever wondered what LCD actually means, in this article we are going to explain it.
Although the technology seems to have only recently become popular, especially in television sets, the fact is that LCD devices and electronics have been around for decades now.
They are commonly used in items like calculators, thermometers, microwave ovens, stereos and digital clocks.
As you may know, the acronym LCD actually stands for liquid crystal display. But what exactly does that mean? Well, without getting overly technical, it relies on something called twisted nematic liquid crystal.
This material has a twisted crystalline structure and one specific property that makes it extremely attractive to electronics makers, which is that it reacts to electric currents in reliable and consistent ways.
What are the advantages of 15 LCD TV? For starters, their screens are much brighter than any other television on the planet and that includes plasma sets. A flat panel TV is also much easier to watch because it his higher contrast and vastly superior picture quality when compared to a traditional television.
This means that a 15 LCD TV will perform exquisitely under different lighting conditions. In fact, LCD television owners often note that there is no glare on the set, even when the sun is shinning though the windows.
And for people with poor or limited eyesight, a 15 LCD TV will come in brighter and clearer than any other television you can find. They also do not flicker as some traditional sets are wont to do. Believe it or not, this flickering can actually cause eyestrain, which will not be a problem when you watch an LCD set.
Along with Plasma sets, LCDs are ushering in a new age of television technology as the industry continues to grow and new innovations are recorded all of the time. In fact, several LCD makers have announced the introduction of new sets that feature an LED backlighting system.
We know, it’s confusing, LED and LCD. But what LED actually stands for is Light Emitting Diode. What it does is simple: it makes the screen even brighter and clearer.
For quite some time industry insiders and consumers have been debating which is better an LCD set or a Plasma one? Like the battle between Coke and Pepsi, opinions seemed to change with the seasons. But it now seems clear that the 15 LCD TV has an edge when it comes to technology.
After all, one of the major selling points of plasma sets is that they reportedly offered greater viewing angle. That was until LED backlighting came on the scene. With this new feature LCD sets offer the same viewing angles as Plasma sets.
What about the picture? While sharpness and resolution are about equal between plasma and LCD sets, the LCD, as we mentioned, is brighter. It also offers greater contrast, which means that a 15 LCD TV has better picture quality than competing Plasma sets.
That is why LCD sets are slightly more expensive than Plasma models. They also sell better, and industry insiders expect this trend to continue as LCD makers focus on new innovations.
