40 1080p LCD Review
By Anne Ahira
The Good
Great size for most rooms; gorgeous picture thanks to the higher resolution; LCD technology is the best choice on the market
The Bad
May be too small for large rooms; price can be a bit steep for some models
The Bottom Line
If you want the best type of television on the market today but you don’t want a mammoth screen taking over your entire living room, the 40 1080p LCD would be a great choice. Plus, most of the models on the market are high quality, smart investments.
Review
Buying a new television can be a major investment, especially if you’re looking to upgrade the size and resolution of your current model. Depending on your budget, room size, and other preferences, a 40 1080p LCD television could be the perfect choice for you.
First, let’s talk size. So many people want to get the biggest screen that can fit in their homes but they don’t realize the decision is a mistake. Bigger can be better but only if you have the room size to support a mammoth screen.
At 40 inches, one of these televisions could fit nicely into most rooms. You want a viewing distance between your seating and your television of between 6 and 10 feet for maximum picture quality on a 40 1080p LCD television.
Second, let’s look at resolution. As you may already know, 1080p is the highest resolution available. Why does resolution matter? Higher resolution equals a clearer picture that’s going to really let all of the details come through.
It was even rumored that some actors were angry about the switch to these higher resolutions because hiding their facial imperfections would be harder than ever. Regardless, if you want the most amazing picture quality possible on a television and you have the right size room for the set get a 40 1080p LCD.
While we’re on the subject of the 40 1080p LCD, we have to talk about the benefits of the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). When these emerged on the market, many people thought they wouldn’t be the most successful.
Today, they are being hailed as the best screen technologies available and major manufacturers continue to improve the technology. The picture is cleaner, brighter, and crisper than with DLP sets. And they are more energy efficient and lightweight than plasma models. In larger sizes, the prices can be quite high but for a 40 1080p LCD you’ll still find some reasonable price tags.
If all that sounds great and you’re ready to buy, the question is which 40 1080p LCD television to you purchase. You’ll find models from Toshiba, Samsung, Sony, Mitsubishi, and others. Prices range from $900 to $1800 for the same size. Toshiba and Samsung tend to cost less than the others while Samsung also has some of the top features, including built-in USB ports for extra connectivity.
