42 inch TV HDTV: Right Size
By Anne Ahira
Technology has moved at an amazing pace and if you are like many people, you have been hesitant to upgrade your television amidst the chaos. Moreover, it is difficult to know what television to get, LCD or plasma.
In order to make a good choice, there are a few details you should know. The first of them is the size and composition of the room in which your new television will live and entertain.
If you have a huge entertainment area, you may want to go with a 60 or 65-inch screen with surround. However if you are not a celebrity and have a normal home a good median size is the 42 TV HDTV.
Considerations
Size of your room will determine if the 42-inch HDTV is a good choice for you. A good rule of thumb for viewing area is:
- 30 inch- 3.3 feet from the set
- 42 inch- 5.3 feet
- 65 inch 8.1 feet
These are the minimum distances you will need to have between you and your set for the best viewing experience. New innovations is screen resolution have made it possible to sit closer than with older model big screens so these are suggestions not hard and fast rules.
Lighting
The next thing you will want to decide on is whether you like plasma or LCD for your 42 inch TV HDTV. The natural lighting of the room does play a role in this decision.
For rooms with normal to darker lighting, plasma 42 inch TV HDTV is your best bet. Plasma televisions actually emit light from the phosphorous inside while LCD relies on light passing through to create the images.
Extremely bright rooms therefore will fare better with a LCD 42 inch TV HDTV. Customers have had nothing but good things to say about their LCD displays in brightly lit rooms.
Adjustments
You may think that the beautiful picture you seen on the showroom floor are going to translate well to your living room. Well not always, you see manufacturers turn up the brightness levels and contrast to give the television a great image on the showroom floor.
Those settings may not fair to well when you set your 42-inch HDTV up in the den. What happens many times is the video quality coming in is not high definition and that coupled with the extreme bright levels can magnify the video flaws you otherwise would not see.
You may have to work with the picture settings on your new 42 inch TV HDTV to get the best at home picture quality. There are no exact settings you use but typically, start with bringing the brightness level down to about half of what it is set on, then move on to other settings like contrast and such.
Bottom Line
There is more to choosing a television today than ever before. Remember when the choice was color or black and white? Okay maybe that is giving away the writer’s age too much!
Nevertheless, even after color was the only choice you were left with simply choosing the brand and size. High definition has changed all that, now you need to be a tech geek to figure out all the configurations of a 42-inch HDTV or any other set.
