AAA Battery

The holiday season is gone for another year but if your home is like many others, you probably got more than your fair share of electronic gadgets.

There is one thing that gadgets all require, a power source, and more often than not, that power source will include an AAA battery.

Mp3 player, digital cameras and children’s toys can all require batteries, and if you plan to use your device often, you may need to buy stock in AAA battery companies!

Different Types of AAA Battery

There are all kinds of batteries to choose from, lithium, rechargeable, alkaline and more. When you are searching for the perfect AAA battery deciding amongst these types has a lot to do with the usage and the type of device you have.

Alkaline

Alkaline batteries are the old stand bys that most people use every day. These batteries are perfect for the casual user. This means you have few battery hungry devices and the ones you do have are not in constant use.

For instance, remote controls will function quite nicely with alkaline batteries for months at a time. However, that mp3 player that you take jogging every morning will require AAA battery change almost daily.

Rechargeable Alkaline AAA Battery

If you want to get a little more bang for your buck, you might decide to purchase a rechargeable alkaline AAA battery. This is a good way to get more usage out of your batteries but they are still only good for light duty usage.

Some people tend to think that this means the batteries can be used in heavy-duty applications such as digital cameras, unfortunately this in not the case.

Lithium

When you want an AAA battery that will last for years or operate well in extreme temperatures then lithium is the way to go. These of course are not rechargeable and once they die replacement is the only alternative, however when you are getting years of use from your AAA battery this is a moot point.

NiMH Batteries

If there is a gold standard for a AAA battery then nickel metal hydride is it, these batteries offer long life, are environmentally friendly and rechargeable! Another thing that these batteries have that others do not is a steep price tag.

Where you can purchase a four pack of AAA or AA alkaline batteries for a few dollars NiMH batteries will cost you about $10.

Conclusion

Which AAA battery you need is dependent upon the usage and battery drain of the device. If you use a high drain device infrequently, you could still get by nicely with alkaline batteries or rechargeable alkaline batteries.

However if you are a bit of a shutter bug and like to carry your digital camera with you at all times you may want to spend the extra money for batteries that will not leave you in the lurch.
