Battery Recharger
By Anne Ahira
Even the best battery will finally be completely spent and require replacement. People who use a large number of electronic devices have found that purchasing rechargeable batteries saves them quite a bit of money in the long run. Of course, if you are going to use these kinds of batteries you will need a battery recharger.
While you can get your garden-variety battery recharger, at most retail outlets there are some really nice devices to be had online at sites like Amazon. One such charger is the Lacrosse BC-700.
Features
- Battery charger for NiCad and NiMH AA and AAA rechargeable batteries
- 4 modes: charge, discharge, refresh, and test
- AA & AAA- charge simultaneously
- 4 separate LCD displays
- Overheat-detection
- Multi-volt up to 240v
- $30 Amazon
Pros
This handy little battery recharger is comparable in price to the average battery charger available at any retail location. However, you get a few more options for your money with this particular model.
The first thing you will notice is that this battery recharger has four separate charging modes, charge, discharge, refresh and test. This comes in handy when you wonder if a battery needs charging or not, simply hit the test button and within moments, you will have your answer.
Along with the four charging modes are four separate LCD displays for each charging slot. You can easily charge 1-4 four batteries. Some battery rechargers require you to charge the batteries in pairs, and unfortunately, not all devices require an even number of batteries. Don’t you hate it when a gadget only requires three batteries? This battery recharger will charge either NiCad, or Nimh AA or AAA batteries.
Cons
This is a great battery recharger; however, it is not necessarily created for the non-technological individual. You need to know a little bit about batteries charging rate, and how to reset this charger for higher and lower charging rates. In addition, the instructions are not the easiest to understand. You will likely need to read through them a few times to get the gist of how to operate this device.
Conclusion
The Lacrosse BC-700 is a nice detailed battery recharger, but it is not for the faint at heart! If you are looking for a device that will give you several options for charging your batteries this is the charger for you. However if you are not inclined to learn about charging rates and other technical details you might want to forego this unit and choose something a bit less complicated from your local retailer.
