Canon Copiers lead the Way
By Anne Ahira
Like many Japanese firms of its time, Canon had humble origins. In fact, the company was founded in 1933 in a simple apartment room that employees jokingly referred to as a laboratory. However, what they lacked in equipment and space they more than made up for in dedication. The workers at Canon were focused, some might say obsessed, with building the perfect Japanese camera.
You see, at that time all high-quality cameras were European in origin, with most of them coming from Germany. But with a lot of hard work and experimentation, Canon changed world market perception (with regard to cameras) when they released their Kwanon Camera in 1935. Canon has never looked back since as they have grown into a market leader in cameras for decades now.
In the seventies, however, the company fell on hard times due in large part to a series of poor investments. It was more than a decade before the Canon picked itself up and dusted itself off and truly began to thrive again. Though this is often attributed to hard work and dedication, the truth is that a new product is primarily responsible for Canon’s sudden and unexpected financial success. That product was the personal computer.
Whether it was providence or just a gamble, Canon invested in the personal computer from the outset and hitched its proverbial wagon to the PC’s success. That is why more than any other product Canon copiers define the company today. Their first copiers were released in the late seventies and no one had ever seen anything like them. In fact, the Canon copiers were the first personal copying machine that featured an all-in-one cartridge system. They also introduced the world to the first laser printer with a semiconductor laser.
But the innovations didn’t stop there. The company also released the first Bubble Jet inkjet printers. These new products releases firmly establish Canon copiers as the most sought after computer accessories on the planet. Cannon became the copier of choice for businesses in both Japan and abroad, as they always seemed to stay a step ahead of the competition.
Canon copiers were also among the market leaders in the personal copier market. Though Cannon was obsessed with innovation and most of their truly revolutionary products were designed for the workplace, the company had more experience than anyone when it came to copiers and they knew exactly what consumers wanted. For single consumers, unlike businesses, price tends to be not only a major factor, but sometimes the only one. That is why Canon produced an entire line of low price personal copiers.
These days Cannon copiers have gone digital and they are outselling the competition by a country mile. In fact, cannon doesn’t just lead the market, they dominate it. According to the most recent numbers, more than 35 percent of all copiers sold around the globe have the name Cannon emblazoned on them. This includes cannons award-winning line of digital and color copiers. Though digital copiers are clearly driving the market, color copiers are more affordable than ever, which makes them a viable option for many small businesses.
But it is the top of the line, multifunctional digital copiers that garner the most respect and the most inquiries. These copies can do everything from sending faxes to making copies to brewing a great cup of coffee. Just kidding! They don’t actually brew coffee.
