Everyone likes photos, they are the way we mark time in our life as well as remembering special events. There was a time when the best way to get a quality photo was to pay someone else to take it, or take it yourself and then send the film off to be developed in a lab, only to find out a week later that most of your pictures were out of focus or black!

The digital camera took care of a lot of that just a few years ago. Now people from 9-90 years old are taking pictures and saving them to their computers. Some would even print them on regular paper to share. Then came the photo printers, a printer whose main function was to print digital photographs from your home computer, like the Canon IP1700.

The Canon IP1700 is a very well priced introductory photo printer. It retails online for about $125 and is available on many different sites. This photo printer has brought the world of photography into many homes for a reasonable price.

Features

  • Borderless printing in several sizes – 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 and 8.5×11 inches
  • 4800x 1200 DPI
  • Black and white – 22 pages per minute
  • Color- 17 pages per minute
  • Print a borderless 4×6 in 55 seconds

Pros

For a photo printer the Canon IP1700 is very reasonably priced. Many similar printers will run you a lot more money and not provide a noticeable difference in prints. This is a very good first time photo printer for the amateur photographer.

The Canon IP1700 is simple to set up and even easier to use. It has  a wonderful top feed that is better by far than any other type of feed, especially for photos. Once you have it set up you will notice it does not take up a lot of room and runs very quietly.

Even people who have owned equipment that is more expensive are pleasantly surprised at the function of the Canon IP1700. They note that even though pictures are not expert quality they are good quality and the printer kicks them out at a decently fast pace.

Cons

Ink can be a bit more expensive than other printers can. This could be because of the pigment black ink that the company uses to prevent smudging. Whatever the reason you might want to check on ink refills as an option.

Bottom Line

This is an entry level photo printer that prints nice photos overall and does so quickly and quietly. If you are expecting professional grade images then you will want to forego the Canon IP1700, it simply will not produce high grade images like a studio, but what can you expect for less than $200?
