Canon Scanners

By Anne Ahira

A scanner is a device that allows you to scan photos or documents to copy or place on your computer.

Depending on the model and brand, you choose you may be able to scan and print in one motion without saving the document to your computer first.

Canon is a big name in the computer industry especially when it comes to printers, copiers, fax machines and scanners. Moreover, there are several options when it comes to Canon scanners.

Stand Alone

Stand-alone Canon scanners are not nearly as popular as they once were. Today there are so many all in one machines on the market it really does not make a lot of sense to purchase a several separate machines.

However, some people prefer to use a simple stand-alone scanner or they need added features that you cannot get in a stand alone, so here are a few details.

Canon CanoScan 8800

  • Color film/negative/photo scanner
  • High-luminance white LED lamps
  • Batch-scan up to 4 slides or 12 35mm frames
  • Digitally remove dust, scratches, and other imperfections
  • Scan, copy, create emails and multi-paged PDFs
  • $189.95 Amazon

These Canon scanners do quite a bit more than simply copy documents to your computer. You can make copies of slides, edit photos and old documents and even create multi paged PDF files. This scanner is definitely a cut above the rest.

All in One Canon Scanners

In many homes, you will find canon scanners that do more than simply scan. These are all in one machines that will copy, scan, print, fax and more.

For most situations, this is the economic way to go, especially if you do not need the capability to scan slides or make PDF emails!

Canon Pixma MP640- Features

  • Auto Photo Fix II
  • Easy Web Print EX
  • Photos that last up to 300 years
  • 20 seconds to print lab quality images
  • Built-in 2-sided printing
  • $142.99

When it comes to all in one printers these Canon scanners/printer/copiers offer a variety of connections. Not only will the unit plug and play nicely with a USB cable it also has built in wireless, Ethernet, and USB flash drive connectivity.

You can add this device to your home network for printer sharing or print pictures directly from your camera’s flash memory.

Conclusion

Canon scanners come in many different sizes, shapes, models and applications. The one you choose will depend on your personal or business needs. If you are printing a great deal of the time and only require a scanner once in awhile the all in one unit may be the right choice.

On the other hand, if you will be doing many scanning projects such as copying important slides you may want a standalone unit with more advanced features.

I'm not an expert when it comes to judging image quality-so while I'm giving the LiDE210 a great score, I'm not 100% sure if it's image results are as good, worse, or better than comparable relatively high end consumer scanners. I can say the result... Read More
