Canon SD450
By Anne Ahira
Nothing preserves a lifetime of memories like photos of the events both small and large.
This can be accomplished in several ways, you can get annual family portraits, pay a friend to take them for you or get your own point and shoot camera for those moments that sneak up on you, you know like when little Johnny is wearing his bowl of spaghetti?
A favorite in the point and click category are the Canon Powershot cameras. A particular favorite is the Canon SD450 powershot. Though it is not the cheapest digital camera on the block it is a customer favorite.
Features
- 2.5 inch LCD viewing screen
- 5 megapixel
- Detail enough for 13 x 17 prints
- Fast frame movie mode
- 12 shooting modes
- 3x optical zoom
- Customized color settings
Pros
When you first take the Canon SD450 out of the box, you will immediately notice the superior design. With an all-metal body, this digital camera does not look or feel cheap. Moreover, it just looks sharp!
If you have tried several models of digital cameras one thing you may have noticed is time, some are slow to respond. The Canon SD450 has DIGIC II processing, which is a fancy way of saying this camera is fast. Take it out, turn it on, shoot then zoom!
All cameras take pictures but few allow you to make mini movies or videos. The Canon SD450 allows you to record at several different speeds and you can film up to 1 GB or 60 minutes whichever comes first.
Want to take several pictures in rapid succession? Canon has made it easier than ever, you can set this camera to allow you to hold down the shutter button and take a photo every half a second.
If you are a person who is going to be taking many photos, you will quickly find that the LCD screen drains the battery. The Canon SD450 thought of that to and added an optical viewfinder, with this you can take pictures all day long without worrying about battery life, and then use the screen to preview and discard shots at the end of the day.
Cons
There is no way to know for sure how much battery life you have left. With all the innovations in technology, you would think they would have found a decent way to measure and display the amount of battery left in real time.
This camera retails for about $400 on popular online retail sites like Amazon. With there being several models with more megapixels, selling much cheaper this may seem a bit extravagant.
Bottom Line
This is an excellent camera even if it is a little pricey. Many similar cameras may offer more megapixels but they will not offer you the other features mentioned above. If you are serious about your photos the Canon SD450 is a great point and shoot camera.
