Canon SD750
By Anne Ahira
The Canon SD750 is a full 7-megapixel digital camera and a welcome member to the PowerShot lineup.
It is a well-designed piece of photographic material and a quite practical option and for the average user who would prefer to have a rather large LCDs over the old standard optical viewfinders.
The Canon SD750 weighs in at just over 5 ounces and doesn’t quite match some of the companies other models as far as smallness, but it fits nicely into a pants pockets. You can get it in silver and silver with black accents, which is reminiscent of the early film Elphs.
The Canon SD750 uses a Touch Dial Control to quickly accesses the small set of shooting options, which include setting the ISO speed, flash mode, macro or infinite focus, and continuous shooting or timer.
Even though it doesn’t offer manual or semi-manual exposure modes, it does offer the user a good amount of color enhancements and scene modes, exposure compensation, and a functional selection of three full metering modes from which to choose to help customize the way you use the camera and how it responds to different situations.
The Canon SD750 offers a really nice option known as a face-detection. What this does is it automatically locates a face in the frame of the shot and determines focus and metering for it. That means that your people pictures are going to be absolutely phenomenal.
This is in addition to the auto-focus selector modes available on the unit. While the face-detect works well, it is somewhat hidden in the menus and if it doesn’t find a face in the frame it defaults back to standard auto-focus.
The Canon SD750’s layout is pretty well thought out and easy to use even for first time users. It has a rather larger 3-inch LCD for framing and for reviewing and playback of the images and such that you recorded.
The LCD display is bright and easy to see, even in strong and direct sunlight, but you might find that it looks a bit grainier than some other LCD screens on the market if you are comparing them.
All in all the Canon SD750 is a great moderately high resolution camera that is small and easy to use and will most likely fit nicely into most any ones lifestyle and budget.
It would be a welcome addition as a first camera, a replacement camera or a second camera. It won’t take long to become familiar with it and to begin taking wonderful photos that you can enjoy for years to come.
The Canon SD750 is a nice addition to the Canon PowerShot line and one that promises to be around giving great results for a good long while.
