Composite Cable

By Anne Ahira

The composite cable is considered to be a communications based cable that has the capability to carry signals that are considered to be optical and signals that are considered to be metallic. Many individuals use multiple electronic devices. It is not at all uncommon for the need to transfer a video based image from one particular electronic device to another. The composite cable permits you to do just that. It is important to know and understand what to look for when purchasing such a cable so that you can rest assured that your viewing experience is completely enhanced. In this guide, you will learn about the technical details of a composite cable.

If you own a television set or a DVD player that is a bit older, you will benefit from owning a composite cable. The same holds true if you have an older model video game system that you want to attach to a television in your home. Technology advances rapidly when it comes to electronic devices. While we would all enjoy owning the latest gadgets such as the popular LCD HD TV and new gaming systems such as the Nintendo WII, the truth is most of us have an older system in our home – whether it is a television set, a VCR, a DVD, or an old Nintendo gaming system. By owning a composite cable, you will always have the capability of attaching your devices that permit the video signal to be displayed.

The composite cable will allow you the functionality that is required to transfer video signals between two electronic devices. When it comes to the standard in applications seen in home theaters in the earliest days of entertainment peripherals, this type of cable was the first analog based component. Composite cable is actually considered to be basic NTSC or “Standard-Definition” when it comes to video signal transfer. The composite cable does not require what is referred to as “RF Modulation”. Unlike other types of transfer plugs, this type of cable consists of just a single line.

At the end of the composite cable, you will find that there is a RCA based plug. However, it is important to understand that other types of connectors may also be included on a cable that is considered to be a “composite” model. The next type of connector that you may find on the composite cable is the one that is referred to as “BNC”. The next type of cable connector that may be on the end of this type of cable is the “F-Connector”. The connector is typically yellow in color. If and when you use a composite cable, be certain that you also purchase an audio cable. The composite will only carry a video signal and not a sound signal.
