GE has a long history of creating wonderful consumer products including microwaves, however when it comes to the GE Profile microwave apparently something has gone very wrong.
The grand consensus is that these devices work fantastic in the beginning but fade very quickly.
When you research any type of electronic, you should always take what others say with a grain of salt and weigh the good reviews with the bad however; with the GE Profile microwave, apparently there is little good to say.
Profile Line
Within the Profile line of microwaves from General Electric, there are several wattages to choose from, the range is 800-1200 watts.
The problem seems to be that no matter which variation you choose there have been issues with peeling paint, bad power supplies and failing magnetrons. You could expect a few bugs with any new product release but these problems seem to be spanning several models over a few years.
There is one bright spot on the horizon for the GE Profile microwave line, the 1.8 cu ft over the range model.

This GE profile microwave installs above your range and offers 1100 watts of cooking power. Included in the design is a handy four-speed fan to vent smoke and steam from the cook top. Underneath is also a halogen light, which sheds bright light on whatever you are cooking beneath.
This particular model seems to be free of the problems that have plagued the product line. GE profile microwave PVM1870SM model is a reliable easy to use appliance with a wonderful touch pad that customers truly enjoy.
GE offers comparable units in stainless steel, white and black so it should not be too difficult to find an oven that fits in with your décor.

Conclusion
Any company can have a few bad apples in the bunch and if you are interested in a GE Profile microwave, you will want to do your homework.
This line of microwaves has gotten a good review from consumer reporting agencies; however, customer experience has been varied. Watch for models that have excellent customer reports when it comes to reliability.
