We have come a long way since the invention of the microwave so many years ago. New inventions come and go but this one has become an integral part of every home in America.
In fact when remodeling a home the microwave is as much a part of the appliance list as the stove and refrigerator. The verdict is in people will not live without their microwaves even if all they ever use them for is heating up a cup of coffee or an occasional bag of popcorn. One thing you may not find on other microwaves is the cook times I/II. This allows you to set the GE spacemaker microwave with two cook times. The first will get your food started and then kick off for stirring or rotating without having to reprogram the microwave. That was an ingenious idea for a microwave.
The GE spacemaker microwave has a handy child lock feature. Now you can keep young children from cooking unsupervised by locking the microwave. Sometimes young people underestimate the heat produced by cooking and can become injured handling hot food, especially from a unit installed above the range.
Do you need more space to cook in your GE spacemaker microwave? All you must do is remove the oven rack to create a larger cooking space within the unit. This is handy around the holidays when cooking really revs up.
Many over the range type microwaves are very expensive, costing up to $500 and more. The GE spacemaker microwave is a nice built in with plenty of features at a price well below much of the competition. Currently you can purchase this unit online for less than $200.
Cons
You may notice that the door on this unit is a bit flimsy. It stands up to use okay, but for a built in you would think the door would be the last place, a manufacturer would skimp on parts.
Some customers have commented that the GE spacemaker microwave does not affix tightly to the wall. Since there is little way to verify the installation it could be a case of operator error, or the wrong equipment was used to put it in.
Bottom Line
If you want the look of a built in at the price of a countertop unit the GE spacemaker is a good choice. It is easy to install yourself though you will need some help lifting the device into place.
