Finding a Quality HD Plasma TV

HD Plasma TV

By Anne Ahira

HD plasma TV models have been up against their ordinary LCD and LED counterparts for several years. What is amazing is that these plasma TVs are still in the market because of their advantages.

Just because the determination to get an HD plasma TV finally triggers doesn’t mean that any model can be purchased to ensure the best experience ever.

Some of the seemingly best HD plasma TV displays may not even be affordable. Here are some tips on how to get a quality HD plasma TV.

Determine the Size Needed

Large HDTVs are always a good thing and plasma models may be the best bet when it comes to larger screens, but it is important to survey the area where the TV will be placed to see if it will fit. Also if the entire purpose of getting a large HD plasma TV is solely for getting the best resolution possible, there is no need to get a very large screen.

There are some plasma displays that are available that are 32 inches and bear the full 1080p specification required for viewing high definition content. A good fact that is worth remembering is that most 32-inch plasma TVs are cheaper than LCD TVs of the same size. Larger screens still help emphasize the HD resolutions better.

Select a Good Brand

Plasma TVs in the past saw some problems such as the increased energy consumption compared to ordinary televisions and the burn-in problems that affect the picture display.

Manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and Sanyo implemented some technologies that remedy these problems including the Motion Logo technology that fixes the burn-in issues. Cell designs are also improved to decrease energy usage. The phosphorus gas that powers the plasmas also increased in quality as well.

Panasonic along with other makers decided to go the environmental route by eliminating the dependency on lead since it is viewed as a harmful pollutant to the environment. Instead, phosphorus gas was ionized to make them eco-friendly as well as give added boosts to some of the specs such as refresh rates.

Other Specifications to Look For

Every HDTV has a contrast ratio and some of the available HD plasma TVs boast contrast ratios in large numbers making it very tempting to pick up. For best quality, try to find an HD plasma TV that has a contrast ratio of at least 2,000,000:1. This makes it more suitable for group audiences to enjoy presentations and movies.

For better connectivity, it is also recommended to find a plasma TV that has the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certification. No matter what brand the TV represents, HD wireless connectivity will always be a feature along with other special features like a digital comb filter, integrated digital tuner, and progressive span.

It is a good time to get an HD plasma TV since they have been around for awhile and just about all of the modern plasma TVs have fixed the major issues in the past which is why plasma TVs are still actively being sold in a variety of sizes.
