HDMI Switch
By Anne Ahira
Isn’t it funny how as technology marches on and things get better, real words that describe items are relegated to acronyms? The HDMI Switch is a perfect example of this. It is a small device with a long name. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It’s a fancy term for a device that shows the crispest video image and passes the best signal possible by today’s standards.
As you might imagine an HDMI Switch will allow you to hook up several HDMI sources to a single input and switch between them. This is important because the TVs available today, for the most part, do not have a large selection of additional HDMI inputs. This is mostly due to the fact that until recently, a lot of video sources were not available with HDMI outputs so there was little need for multiple HDMI inputs on the television.
Today everything from your Blue Ray player to your computer to your camcorder and even your satellite box are likely to contain an HDMI output. Since your Television may have only one perhaps two inputs you are going to need an HDMI Switch to allow you to get these source into your set and still have the video and audio quality that HDMI affords you.
There is a plethora of different options out there today in the avenue of the HDMI Switch. In days gone by when you wanted to add extra things to an input of your AV system you had a manual switch that you had to physically get up and push a button to get the change made. Today that is handled electronically with a remote control.
The HDMI Switch that you may purchase today will allow you to change from one source to another as easily as you change channels on the TV because it runs off a remote from the comfort of your easy chair. This allows you to have all the absolute best-input signals at the touch of a button so that you are no longer relegated to one or two HDMI inputs and then having to run the rest of the equipment off the RCA or Cable outs.
These are exciting times and the consumer since things like the HDMI Switch allows you to benefit with the improved picture and audio quality that can at times rival a high quality movie theatre in both areas.
As the cost of a night to the movies for the average family continues to rise more and more people are opting to improve the home entertainment areas and spend that money and time at home where they can be safe and comfortable. AS more devices are HDMI compatible the addition of the HDMI Switch allows you to integrate everything seamlessly.
