Hearing aids are specialized electronic devices that require specific hearing aid batteries to function at their full potential.

Here are some tips for getting the right hearing aid batteries as well as changing it and other things you should know about your hearing aid.

Getting old means learning to accept limitations of the body as muscles weaken and senses dull. Losing your hearing can adversely affect your relationships with loved ones. As you lose your ability to hear, communication breaks down causing misunderstandings and frustration on both sides.

Luckily there is a fix for the situation. A quality hearing aid can change your life for the better. It will allow you to hear the way you used to. Even better in some cases. Once you have the hearing aid you will never want to be without it and that is why quality hearing aid batteries are important.

Hearing aids are quite small and there are a lot of electronics packed in there with the receiver, the speaker and the volume control. The battery has to be small as well to fit and designed to fit inside the narrow shell. This is why hearing aids use specifically designed batteries.

Changing the batteries can be difficult only because the equipment is small and the internal components are delicate. You should not be intimidated by the process though because with a few tips you can change the battery yourself.

The first step is the make doubly sure that you have the correct battery. The package and instruction manual that came with your hearing aid will list the specific size and type that it needs. Make sure you keep this information somewhere you will remember it when you need it.

Once you are sure you have the right hearing batteries you are ready to proceed. Start by turning the hearing aid off. Next locate the battery compartment and remove the cover as directed. Be careful as the hearing aid is designed to be light weight and that means that its pieces are not designed to handle a lot of abuse.

Once you have the hearing aid open, remove the old battery from the compartment. Usually you can pop it out with a fingernail but you may need a small screwdriver to pry it out, like the type that comes in an eyeglasses repair kit. Make sure to dispose of the battery properly.

Hold the battery by the plastic tab to insert it into the hearing aid. Then pull the tab to remove the plastic cover and the battery will be activated. Once you replace the door to the battery compartment and turn the unit back on, it should be ready to go.

If you buy batteries it is a good idea to go ahead and get an extra set so you will have them when you need them. Keep you hearing aid batteries on the shelf in the fridge. The cold will make them last longer and you will always know where to find them.
