Surround sound or home theater units are more popular today than ever before. People have come to expect the theater quality sound for their own homes.

This is partly due to a change in taste but in large part, it is because the current television market is so focused on slim design there is no room in the sets for decent sounding speakers.

If you have a LCD or Plasma television, you already understand the dilemma. Great picture quality but poor sound seems to be the MO for the high definition television market.

When it comes to surround sound, a premier brand is the Klipsch Quintet III. These are the latest release and an upgrade to the Klipsch Quintet II home theater system, which incidentally was the companies best selling surround sound system ever. With that kind of legacy, you can bet the new generation is going to be awesome!

Features

  • 5 piece surround sound unit
  • Horn loaded tweeters
  • High output woofers
  • 200w output for satellite speakers
  • 300w max output for center speaker

Pros

When you open the Klipsch Quintet packaging you may be thinking there is no way these little speakers are going to have much to offer in the way of sound quality. That is where you would be wrong, for such small speakers they fill the room with sound with little or no distortion even at extreme volumes.

Some home theater systems offer great sound for movies but fall short when it comes to different types of music. You will be pleasantly surprised to find these speakers will perform well no matter what sound you throw at them.

Professional opinions aside for a moment, you can really tell what a system will do by listening to what other users have to say. For the Klipsch Quintet there is nothing but glowing reports. Customers compare this system to the elite Bose system and are happier with the Klipsch. Now that is an impressive endorsement for any audio product.

Cons

The Klipsch Quintet III is a 5.0 system; this means there is no included subwoofer. The company suggests you pair the system with their Sub-10 or Sub-12. This is where the process gets expensive, the Quintet costs around $400+ and either of these subwoofers will run about the same. That leaves you investing nearly a grand in a home theater system. Of course, you are free to use just the 5.0 speakers but if bass is a big concern you will need to upgrade.

Bottom Line

The Klipsch Quintet III is a great product that has received positive feedback from professionals as well as consumers. All around these are good home theater speakers.

Probably not on par with a multi-thousand dollar system, but excellent for the price. Easy to set up, well built, sound is excellent for it's stated purpose - a surround system. Since they were a pre-Christmas special we paid only $200 for them. I... Read More

I moved and left my Polk Audio in-wall satellites (which I absolutely LOVED) in the house I sold. I bought these because it would be hard to do an in-wall installation at the house I bought. Compared to my old Polk's, the sound quality of these Kli... Read More
