Laptop computers were created to be portable and you would think that the manufacturers would have included convenient laptop car adapter kits with every sale.

Alas, this is not the case and unless you are very near an electrical outlet, you will not get much more than an hour of use from your “portable” computer. The good news is someone did think to make laptop car adapter kits.

You have basically two choices for charging your computer on the go, you can purchase a special charging cable the plugs into your vehicles cigarette lighter or you can get an inverter kit.

For most laptop brands, you can order a proprietary laptop car adapter. This cable will plug into your device and your cars cigarette lighter in order to recharge your computer battery.

Since these cables are specifically designed for your laptop, they are often the safest choice. The voltage coming from your car to your device could potentially harm it so use caution if you choose another form of car charging.

While these are not made as strictly laptop, car adapter kits they will work to charge your laptop and many other devices. This is the most economical answer to charging on the run.

Whether you are constantly on the go or simply want to power your laptop while camping there are a couple of ways to achieve your goals. A power inverter may be the cheapest and most flexible solution but you should be careful that you do not overpower your devices.

If you plan to keep your current laptop for quite some time and do not need the flexibility of a power inverter, you would be better served to get the cable rated for your particular laptop.
