If you are in need of a new printer chances are you may have considered many options including laser, and you probably have a few questions about laser printer ink toner.

One of the main reasons people choose laser type printers is because of the lower cost per sheet printing.

While you may be able to purchase an inkjet printer for a fraction of the cost, you will find that on a per page basis toner based printers offer better economy.

Laser printers are also the better choice for the workplace as they can stand a heavy workload much better than a typical inkjet. That being said lets look into a few potential areas you might have questions in.

Purchasing Laser Printer Ink Toner

When you are comparing laser printers there is one important question you should ask about the machine, does it require proprietary toner. This means that the only toner or toner cartridge you can use must come from the manufacturer.

Several companies have their laser printer ink toner set up in this manner and what that will mean for you is that you cannot purchase it cheaper from a third party.

Now the manufacturer will tell you that their machines simply work better if you use a specific laser printer ink toner, and to some extent that may be true.  This is most common if you have chosen a color laser printer.

However if the majority of your documents are going to be simple black and white text, then using a cheaper toner should not make that much difference. You will want to check on this before making your final decision and also inquire about warranties and such if you use a cheaper toner.

Black and White or Color?

For a long time the only laser printer you could purchase was one that printed strictly black, and even today these are the most common types found in most businesses.

Nevertheless, colored toner has come into the market place and if you are a business that creates nice color brochures or correspondence, you will want to consider one of these models.

You should know up front that replacing color laser printer ink toner will likely be much more expensive than just black, but you should still reap savings on the cost per page.

Toner Cartridges

Some laser printers can be refilled while others will have to be replaced entirely. There are kits that are sold that promote refilling all toner cartridges and if you are handy, this could be an option for you but some people feel it is just too much trouble.

If you choose, the type of laser printer that requires a complete toner cartridge replacement it is a good idea to find a place that recycles them.
