LG Microwaves
By Anne Ahira
LG is a name in the electronics field that people know well. This company began in 1958 as Goldstar and at that time, they produced televisions washing machines and air conditioners.
The name the LG came after two companies, Lucky and Gold Star merged. They have a long history of producing top quality electronics, and LG microwaves are no exception.
LG microwaves come in many forms and colors, they have black, white and stainless steel and many of these colors are available in both the countertop and over the range style microwaves.
LG 1680ST
This LG microwave is one example of their over the range type oven. This type of microwave is perfect for homes where space is a premium. Since it is mounted above the stove, you will lose no counter space.
Features
- 1.6 cubic foot
- Stainless steel
- 1000 watts
- 10 power levels
- Auto defrost
- Child lockout
- 12 2/3 inches turntable
- Bi level cooking racks
Pros
A very nice feature of these LG microwaves is the bi-level racks. This makes it simple to cook more than one item at a time. Now you can fix a meal in no time flat.
A feature that has been a long time coming to the microwave world is the ability to melt or soften things like butter and chocolate without scorching them. These LG microwave have the perfect low wattage settings for doing this very thing.
Overall performance of this microwave is outstanding. Customers had very little negative to say about these LG microwaves. The one exception is a customer who obviously purchased a lemon. In every manufactured product, you will find a few that are bad apples but not a representation of the whole.
Cons
The biggest complaint or warning if you will is the weight of this unit. It weighs a whopping 60 pounds and is designed to be installed over a range. Needless to say you will need some assistance to install it. Carefully follow the instructions on placement of the brackets and move your range out if possible, this will make it much easier to install.
LG LMVM2277ST
If you like to have the latest gadgetry you might take a look at these LG microwaves. This one features a full 2.2 cubic foot cooking area, 12-inch turntable and similar controls to the one above. What is interesting about this microwave is the slide up door. Yes, the door glides upwards instead of opening out. The microwave also boasts 1100 watts of cooking power, however this over their range oven retails for over $700! For that kind of money, it better take the food out of the refrigerator and cook it!
Bottom line
LG microwaves come from a company with a lot of experience with consumer electronics. Though their latest venture may seem a bit extreme overall, the company produces quality products.
