The first notable difference you can see with the Marantz CD player SA8003 is the SACD distinction. This stands for super audio compact disc and is a design concept first introduced by Sony and Phillips.
It is basically a high-resolution recording format that can hold as much data as a typical DVD. What it all boils down to is you can play these high definition CD’s as well as the standard format.

The Marantz CD player SA8003 is not built for surround sound units; this is a stereo only device. Therefore, if you were hoping to upgrade your current surround sound unit to play high definition CD’s this Marantz CD player is not for you.
As stated above you will never put together an excellent stereo system on a shoestring budget. Nevertheless this unit is still quite expensive for a simple CD player, SACD capabilities not withstanding this is serious money for a piece of a home stereo.
