Media player downloads can mean two things, an actual media player compatible for your pc or laptop and the music or video files you want to access.

The most popular media player downloads are Windows media player and GOM player.

Both are free downloads and each has its own special features.

Windows Media Player

The longest running media player download is the Windows media player. It is from Microsoft therefore it is compatible with the most popular operating system on the planet.

Usually it will come with the operating system depending on which version you purchase. Since it is so popular, many mp3 player manufacturers are going to great lengths to create portable players that are compatible with Windows.

GOM

Recently a new media player has hit the internet and quickly risen to the top in most popular downloads, this is the GOM media player.

Created mostly for people interested in video over mp3 it was not designed with many organizational functions, i.e… playlists and genre.

However it has become so popular because of the many video file formats that it is coded to play.

Music and Video Files

You have no doubt seen in the news over years past people who have gotten into legal hot water over illegal media player downloads. Sites have offered all the music you could dream of in a peer-to-peer sharing network that bordered on piracy.

To stay out of trouble it is important to know where you can shop for media player downloads.

The first thing to watch out for is the word free, everyone wants access to free stuff but the thing is many times the downloads are illegal.

There is no two ways about it when an artist creates a song or video they expect to be paid for their work, hence copyright protection. To be safe avoid the free music, videos and movies.

Instead, research the sites that are most compatible with your media player. If you have an IPod the choice is clear, you will have to submit to ITunes for all your media player downloads.

For other media players it is a matter of choosing a service that has music file types compatible with your machine.

Napster to go, Amazon and Rhapsody are all decent download sites. Napster and Rhapsody both offer a subscription based service where you pay one flat fee per month for any number of downloads.

Amazon on the other hand offers single track and album media player downloads for a flat rate each.

Overall

Picking and choosing your media player and your download site is a cost effective way to get just the music you want. How many times have you paid $20 or more for an album only to find out you liked one or two songs?

Downloading them one at a time you would have paid a couple of bucks for the same two songs and not have the other tracks cluttering up your pc.
