The New MP3 Shuffle From iPod

One of the most exciting things about technology is the release of new items.

And that’s why I’m quite excited about the MP3 shuffle player that Apple announced and that was released last week on Amazon for eager buyers.

What makes this third generation player better than the previous versions? Well, let’s take a look at some of the innovations that I find pretty interesting.

Size

When I look at the other MP3 shuffle players, it’s hard to imagine the thing every getting any smaller! But Apple managed to shrink the third generation player’s size even more.

The newest model is reportedly smaller than a AA battery. That’s pretty small. But at the same time it can hold up to 4 GB of music which is the equivalent of 1,000 songs.

Improved Clip

Many of the people I know who have bought an MP3 shuffle in the past did so because they use the player when they are working out. That’s a great idea but can be a bit awkward if you don’t have a good way of clipping it onto your clothes.

The newest model takes care of that problem by adding a stainless steel clip that can hook almost anywhere. That’s definitely a selling point for the millions of exercisers who love their music.

The Voice

Probably the biggest change to the new MP3 shuffle is the addition of voice over. Apple has added a voice to the iPod which will tell you the name and title of the song playing if you just click a button.

The voice can also tell you the name of the playlist you’ve accessed ? and that’s another great change in this model: the MP3 shuffle now supports multiple playlists so you can better organize your music.

The purpose of having the voiceover is to replace the need for any type of screen and to let users know what they’re listening to without looking at the device.

Ear Bud Controls

If there’s one area I’m not thrilled about with the new MP3 shuffle it’s the move of the controls off the player and onto the ear buds. If you want to change the volume, switch songs, etc., you have to use the remote connected to the ear buds.

The problem is I’m not a fan of the iPod ear buds ? Not only because white ear buds look awful with a black or silver MP3 shuffle ? But they break easily and don’t stay in my ears well.

However, the question of whether or not I’ll be able to purchase an alternative pair without losing the ability to control my MP3 shuffle remains to be seen.

Overall, the new Apple MP3 shuffle is a cool new device with tons of promise as long as the ear bud situation works out. And for just under $80 at Amazon it’s a good deal.
