Choosing New MP3 Players

New Mp3 Players

By Anne Ahira

On average, my family buys new MP3 players every year.

That’s not because we have to, although that is sometimes the case, but because so many great ones are hitting the market all the time that making a solid decision can be challenging.

However, there are a few really great MP3 players on the market now which you might want to consider for your next purchase.

Apple iPod Nano 4th Generation

Part of the reason why my family is always buying new MP3 players is because of the new iPods that seem to come out almost annually.

When the new Nano players hit the market near the end of 2008, my husband had to have one.

And they do have some interesting features, such as incorporating some of the movement technology available in the iPhone.

If you’ve had an iPod before, you won’t find much has changed in terms of navigation but the screen is a little bigger and a little clearer so everything is going to look just a little more amazing.

Plus, the Nano comes in lots of different vibrant colors. Amazon charges about $140 for the 8 GB models while Tiger Direct carries the 16 GB models for $200.

SanDisk Sansa Clip

One of my personal favorites in terms of new MP3 players I’ve purchased is the SanDisk Sansa Clip. It’s one of the tiniest players on the market and weighs less than one ounce so it’s very convenient to take with you while you’re walking or jogging.

The handy clip is a nice feature, too, so you can easily attach it to your clothing or whatever you want. Another benefit is that these new MP3 players, which came on the market at the start of 2008, have a fairly large hard drive for their size.

The one I own has 4GB of storage and uses a flash drive for storage which is great because it is sturdier. At Amazon, the SanDisk Sansa Clip cost just under $50 for the 4 GB model. You can get the same model at Jr.com for about $60.

Creative Zen Mozaic

Creative Zen has been under the radar of enthusiasts with their new MP3 players for a long time but the Mozaic which was launched in July 2008 is probably one of the most unique looking and fun players on the market.

The player comes with a 1.8 inch display which is a good size for the market today. The 4 GB hard drive is a bit smaller than what you’d get with a Nano but is still enough room to fit about 1,000 MP3 files. That’s not bad when compared to other new MP3 players.

And you definitely can’t argue with the battery life of the player which is roughly 32 hours of music playing. That’s better than both the iPod and the Zune.

While mature music lovers might find the Mozaic a little too cute for their taste, younger music lovers will probably love it. You can get it at Amazon.com for $75. JR.com carries the 2 GB model for $60 and the 8 GB model for $90.
