As a Japanese optics company Pentax produces sport optics such as binoculars and of course now produce Pentax digital cameras. The official company that actually owns Pentax is the Hoya Corporation.
A man named Kumao Kajiwara initially founded the company as a lens company under the name of Asahi Kogaku Goshi Kausha in November 1919. The corporation is of course best recognized for its eponymous brand of “Pentax” cameras. This was begun with the essential “Asahi Pentax” single-lens reflex (SLR) camera of 1957.At some point Samsung and Pentax merged, but now the Hoya and Pentax Corporations merged again, and it is now known by most as the Hoya Pentax Corporation.
In 1983 Pentax made an A series camera that had a fully programmable exposure control, enabling the photographer to perform adjustments to both aperture and shutter speed automatically. This camera series was the first camera made by Pentax that used LCD digital displays to find exposure information in the viewfinder.
In September 2000, Pentax announced and demonstrated the Pentax MZ-D which was a protogype Pentax digital single-lens reflex camera, but in October 2003, Pentax canceled the possible new camera, stating that the cost of manufacturing the prototype 6 megapixel digital camera was simply too costly. So Pentax digital cameras were born but not yet out for the public!
Finally in 2003, Pentax released their very first digital SLR, the Pentax *ist D . This camera uses a 6 megapixel CCD. But what completely set Pentax D and DS DSLRs apart from the competition was the incredible clarity and high magnification that was being provided by their pentaprism viewfinders! With these additions, the Pentax digital cameras were finally ready to be sold.
Pentax now makes many fine digital cameras thus they are often presenting new Pentax digital cameras to the photography world. Though it will come out in the summer of 2009, this time their newest baby is the K-7 digital SLR camera! The camera is now equipped with a 14.6 effective Megapixel CMOS sensor, and this new camera is actually up to 25% smaller than other cameras of its competitors!
Also, the High Dynamic Range function of these Pentax digital cameras actually takes three exposures and then electronically combines them into one, since they can perform a continuous shoot of 5.2 frames per second! Surprisingly it can actually record High Definition movies at 1280 x 720, 30 frames/second, complete with sound, using its M-JPEG codec. These absolutely amazing new Pentax digital cameras feature a 3-inch LCD display that uses 921,000 pixels.
Professional photographers or serious photographers both will appreciate that new Pentax digital cameras such as this new one, have full manual controls, that feature two different RAW formats (PEF, DNG) as well as the exciting, and Pentax unique, shutter+aperture and the sensitivity priority modes.
