Portable MP3 Players Price
By Anne Ahira
Unless you have lived in a cave for the last few years, you have at least heard of portable mp3 players. They are handy little device that you can download music video on to and take with you everywhere you go.
The thing you may also have noticed is a wide disparity in price. The price range is all over the board and it can be difficult to know which one to purchase.
The Cream of the Crop
Hands down the most expensive and by all reports the best overall in portable mp3 players is the iPod touch. The newest installation in the iPod family is the 8 GB and reviewers are raving about the product.
This second generation of portable mp3 players has everything you could want. Music is just the beginning you will also find:
- Digital Photograph storage
- Video capability
- Pod Casts
- Internet access
- Games
- Wi Fi
- 3.5 inch touch screen
This is without a doubt the top of the line in portable mp3 players, no question. However, at $250, the price lets you know exactly how much quality you are buying and for the casual user who simply wants one of the standard portable mp3 players it could be overwhelming.
Mid Range
Microsoft has their own answer to the iPod craze it is the Zune. For about $160 you can get their top of the line in portable mp3 players. It has a few less features than that of the iPod but it is still a very solid player. Features include:
- 16 GB of storage
- Holds 4000 songs
- 25,000 picture capacity
- 50 hours of video
- Zune to Zune sharing
- Built in Fm radio
As you can see in some ways the Zune out does the Touch. However the devil is in the details really and it will depend on which is more important to you price or internet coverage.
When it comes to portable mp3 players cheap is a relative term. Cheap compared to the two examples above could be anything under a hundred dollars. However, there are models that go as low as twenty dollars at some discount retailers.
Portable mp3 players in this price range could be considered the disposable variety. Some may last a year or two and others no more than six months. That is not to say that they have no place in the market. These are a reasonably priced method of checking the responsibility of a teen, better to have twenty dollars squandered if they lose it than over two hundred.
Conclusion
Portable mp3 players will likely continue to fall in price. As technology continuously increases so will the complexities and features of portable mp3 players. Choose yours based on your needs and family budget.
