Rca Cable
By Anne Ahira
This is one of those things that have been around almost forever. For as long as I can remember almost there has been an RCA Cable used for one thing or another in my home stereo system. They are used to interconnect left and right audio from component to component giving a fast and easy connection of two wires per each connection.
RCA Cable today is pretty much the same and has remained unchanged from its early incarnations. Although the quality of the cable its self and the strength of the actual ends has changed.
Today the top of the line connectors offered by such companies as Monster are heavy and once connected will pass a quality signal from one place to the other. Also offered in most above average quality cables are gold plated ends, which propose to pass a stronger and more reliable signal due to the fact that gold does not oxidize and so there is no way for the signal to be adversely affected.
The types and quality of RCA Cable available today vary widely. Not so many years ago there was simply one grade of cable and that was that. However as the consumer became more conscious of quality and began to demand better sound, the manufacturers began offering good, better and best quality and today you can even find an audiophile version which gives the absolute best in low signal loss cable and connectors.
Most people find that there is little difference in RCA Cable that they can hear. Although if you do have a fantastic ear you can absolutely notice the difference in sound from one to another if you are in a nice quiet room. It is also going to depend a lot on the program material that you are listening to. Obviously classical music or acoustic music will show the sonic difference quicker and easier than you might find if you were listening to thrash metal or punk rock.
The bottom line when it comes to RCA Cable is that you should almost opt for the bargain basement cheap cable because it is cheap, noisy and may cause issues down the line for your system. The mid grade cables are a good all around choice for almost everyone and by all means if you have the disposable income for it, splurge and get the best cables you can afford.
A good RCA Cable is not something that you should need to buy more than once and so when you average out the cost over the lifetime of the cable it makes sense to buy the best that you can afford the first time and then enjoy a lifetime of trouble free use.
