Anyone that knows computers is familiar with the quality of a Seagate Hard Drive. Today you have so many options when it comes to hard drives to enhance your computer that it can take a while to make the decision.
There are many things to consider when choosing a hard drive. Seagate Hard Drives are no exception. People think it should be fairly easy but there truly is more to it than just saying that you want to add a new hard drive.
The immediate and most critical thing to consider might seem too matter of fact to mention, but you need to make sure that the Seagate Hard Drive that you are looking at fits your machine. There will be a physical size difference between a laptop or notebook drive and that for a desktop. You just need to keep that in the back of your mind as you shop.
First you need to decide if your new Seagate Hard Drive is going to be an internal or an external drive. There are reasons for both. Internal is common for desk top machines although a lot of folks lately have been opting to get external drives since they can then use them with any computer. If you choose external you need to decide on SCSI, USB or Firewire for the interface and then you may need to install a special card in the computer depending on what connections you have on it.
Next you need to decide the size you want your new Seagate Hard Drive to be. Prices have dropped so much lately that it is possible to get into a multi-terabyte drive for less than you might think. Remember when it comes to storage capacity, always buy as much as you can afford, they fill up quickly with audio and video files and programs.
In addition to the size of your new Seagate Hard Drive you need to decide on the physical speed of the drive. If you plan on doing any audio or video recording and / or editing at all you need one that is fast or you are very likely to end up with glitches and data loss where and when you least expect or need it.
Just when you think you are done in the decision making process you have another option. Many of the drives in the Seagate Hard Drive come in various models so you might actually find more than one drive with a similar capacity and with similar specs that you will need to look at and compare before making the decision.
You may find that for ease of use, the best choice in a Seagate Hard Drive may well be the external because as you upgrade computers or go from work to home, the drive can tag along and you have the same data everywhere.
