Best Small Speakers Available
By Anne Ahira
I’ve always been an audiophile so I appreciate the sound top-of-the-line speakers can deliver. But I’m also fond of the appearance of the small speakers that are on the market today. I can’t resist them.
Some of them just have an eye-catching look that you won’t find with the larger ones. However, I’m also interested in sound quality so I look for a combination of quality and attractiveness. Below are some of the best small speakers I’ve seen on the market or purchased.
Audio Unlimited Wireless Speakers
Currently, my favorite speakers are these small speakers from Audio Unlimited. We have a small deck and since these speakers are weatherproof, we mounted them outdoors so our satellite music could be heard outdoors.
This is much nicer than having to bring out an old fashioned boom box just to have music at our barbecues. The wireless aspect is also really nice because we didn’t have to spend a fortune to run speaker wires from our satellite receiver to the deck.
That would have been inconvenient and costly. Plus, the cylindrical design of the small speakers is very appealing. They come with a handy remote, too. And Amazon sells them for less than $100 which isn’t a bad deal for wireless speakers that actually do what they promise.
Razer Mako 2.1 Gaming Speakers
Not only am I a music lover but I also love gaming, especially PC gaming. I’m a sucker for first person shooters but, of course, I want the game to sound as amazing as it looks. That’s not going to happen with the speakers you get in the box.
So I invested in some small speakers designed just for gaming. These Razer speakers are some of the best I’ve ever heard, and they should be since they cost a whopping $350 at CompUSA.
I’m not going to lie: the first reason I looked at these speakers was because of their unique appearance. They have an unusual rounded shape which I thought would look amazing with my gaming PC.
But they also have some impressive technology built-in which allows them to deliver some of the best sound quality possible. For starters, they are THX certified. THX was originally created to give impressive sound to theatrical movies and it sounds phenomenal with PC games, too.
The speakers also have a high-end amplifier technology that allows the sound quality to be richer and louder without the distortion that sometimes comes along with higher volumes. No one wants to hear all of that static when they are trying to listen to their favorite game, MP3, or DVD on their computer.
Satechi Dock Station
We can’t talk about small speakers without talking about speakers for MP3 players. My favorite is the $40 Satechi dock station from Amazon. It works with any iPod, including the newest Nanos and the Shuffles, plus other MP3 players. The dock charges the player while you enjoy your music, it comes with a remote control, and runs on either batteries or AC power. Not bad for the price.
