Buying The Best Download MP3 Player
By Anne Ahira
Music has long been one of my passions so, of course, I’ve tried out almost all of the download MP3 player models on the market. If I haven’t personally, I know someone who has, at least.
From all of these experiences, I’ve put together a list of some of what you want to look for in order to buy the right download MP3 player for your needs, as well as recommendations for the best models.
Flash/Hard Drive Capacity
One of the big issues to look for in choosing the perfect download MP3 player for your needs is to look at how much capacity you need. The market contains players that can hold as little as 512 MB and as much as 120 GB or even larger.
If you’re purchasing one of the smaller drives, you probably only want to use it for music listening. Larger ones can also be useful for sharing photos and watching videos/movies. Decide how you want to use yours and then think about how many songs or movies you want to store.
Obviously, videos are going to take up more room so account for that by choosing a large drive. Another option is to choose a smaller size capacity for your download MP3 player but to pick one that is expandable with SD cards.
The SanDisk Sansa View, for example, provides a good mixture of decent storage capacity. Models with 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB storage are available. All three models offer expandable storage with removable memory. At TigerDirect, the 16GB model is only $160. At Amazon, prices range from $100 to $190 depending on the storage capacity you select.
Color Options
Once upon a time, a download MP3 player didn’t have to be colorful to be popular. Thanks to the rainbow of colors introduced by Apple for their iPod Nano line, however, that’s all changed. Today, people sometimes look at the aesthetic appeal of the download MP3 player above the technical specifications. I’m guilty of this myself and so are most people I know, although most rationalize their decisions by talking about features or screen size.
If you want a colorful alternative to the iPod, a good choice is the Microsoft Zune. When these players first launched, black was the only color available. Today, more shades are available for different size models.
For example, the 8 GB model is available in blue, red, and pink. The 120 GB version is also available in red. At the Microsoft Store, prices are $140 for the 8GB models and $250 for the 120 GB models. Those prices are the same at TigerDirect.
A number of the other companies offer their download MP3 player models in other colors, too. For example, the 4 GB Sandisk Sansa Fuze is available in pink, blue, silver, and black. Amazon sells for around $70.
