Mp3 Players Video

By Anne Ahira

Do you remember the time when to take your music with you required a huge boom box and a bag of batteries? Times have surely changed! Portable music players have continued to shrink while their capabilities have increased dramatically.

Could you have imagined just 15 years ago carrying mp3 video players in your pocket? All your favorite music and now movies too can be toted around in your back pocket or favorite purse!

Mp3 video players are the newest kids on the block when it comes to personal portable media. They come in all shapes and sizes as well as brands and capabilities. The main difference however is in the type of memory they contain. Whether it is flash or hard drive.

Flash Memory

Flash memory is the best for mp3 video players that will be constantly on the go. This is because there are no moving parts to be damaged by excessive jostling. Flash memory what you find on jump drives and older mp3 players.

The downside if any is that flash memory is generally much smaller than what you can get with a hard drive based memory. Mp3 video players with flash will range in size from 1 GB to 8 GB. When compared to hard drive that does not sound like a lot of memory, however for most people it will be more than sufficient.

Consider the Latte Communication Ice 8 GB mp3 video players. They are beautiful players compatible with mp3, wav and wma file formats. In addition, they have a 2.8 LCD screen that has awesome clear display and an expansion slot for SD memory cards.

The modest 8 GB of memory will hold 2,000 songs or 24 full-length movies. Now that is a lot of entertainment to carry around in your pocket! Even if you have every song and movie known to man there is little chance that you must have them all at your fingertips. You would probably kill the battery just looking for a movie or song if you had much more than that available. At $99 on Amazon, this is a great mp3 video player.

Cons: The more technologically advanced were not happy with the small memory expansion, this unit will only accept SD cards of 2 GB, but other than that, the player had great reviews.

Hard Drive

Now if you are the collector of music and video and must have millions of songs at your beck and call then you will want to consider mp3 video players with hard drive storage.

The most common application you will find in mp3 video players is the IPod. While the IPod is an excellent product, there is enough information and marketing available without touting them here.

Creative Zen created a very nice line mp3 video players with built in hard drive. The 20 GB hard drive is large enough to store 10,000 songs with a quoted battery life of 19 hours.

Customer reviews are widely positive but there were a few issues.

Cons: The unit tends to have a few bugs and functionality issues at first. The player is not the most user friendly on the block and a few customers took exception to this. It must be noted for as many who had trouble with this player there were more who had no issues at all.

The Good

Look for large LCD displays; many useful features; decent hard drive space

The Bad

Problems transferring files with the Coby; high price of the Sony Walkman; no customer support for the Pro Ebiz

The Bottom Line

If you want to avoid the big names in the MP3 player video industry, that’s fine. Just remember to pick names of companies you recognize or you might end up wasting your money.

Review

When you think about MP3 player video models, your mind probably automatically goes to the big names, such as Apple’s iPod or Microsoft’s Zune. However, there are other possibilities on the market. And not all of them come from obscure companies either.

The Sony Walkman MP3 player video is one example. Launched back in 2007, the produce hasn’t made a huge name for itself in the industry but does have some features that might be of interest to consumers , especially those who don’t want to be in the middle of the Apple/Microsoft battle.

The 1.8 inch LCD screen is comparable to that of the other MP3 player video models on the market and the 4 GB hard drive is capable of holding a large amount of viewable footage and photos. Plus, the fast refresh rate means the videos are going to run better than on comparable MP3 player video devices.

The device comes with an FM tuner and has an impressive 33 hours of battery life (music playing only). Priced at around $120, the Sony Walkman player is a bit more expensive than the under $100 Microsoft Zune.

If you want to purchase an affordable MP3 player video device, then you might consider the Coby model. The device seems to have all of the bases covered: 2 inch LCD screen, built-in FM tuner, 4 GB hard drive, and iPod-like navigation.

Even better is the price for all of this is under $50 which is more than half the price of the Sony Walkman model. Of course, the product does have some potential snags. Customers have complained about difficulty in moving files from their computer onto the device.

Keep in mind that the device is only compatible with the Windows Media Center, too. Other consumers have complained about the device locking up during use and losing the battery charge after only a short time. The Coby MP3 player video model might be a good choice for a younger user or for a casual user.

Both of the above models are from companies with names recognized in the industry. What about a device that’s only claim to fame is looking like an Apple iPhone? That’s the issue with the Pro Ebiz 4 GB MP3 player video device. Like the Coby, you’re going to find most of the same features you’d find on similar products, including built-in voice recorder and support for a wide range of media formats.

The 2.8 inch screen is large and the $44 price tag seems like a great deal. However, many consumers reported broken devices and a lack of customer support for the product. In other words, you sometimes do get exactly what you pay for.
