Wireless Speaker System
By Anne Ahira
Deciding on a wireless speaker system is a rapid and simple solution in order to get rid of all of those unsightly speaker wires that trail around the entire room perimeter running from the AV receiver and of course then to the rear speakers in a supposed “surround sound” installation.
Truly wireless speakers will in addition make available the very simplest alternative to complicated in-wall wiring when enlarging with a second pair of speaker outputs such as Zone-B speaker outputs onto an AV receiver to a set of extra speakers that may be found elsewhere in your home.
Unfortunately, not even that long ago, the performances of the low cost types of wireless speakers have been quite disappointing to say the least.
There were huge problems that were related to power line induced hum—very limited signal to noise ratio, very inadequate audio frequency response, besides experiencing those irksome signal dropouts that were due to a plethora of interference from such things as microwave ovens, cordless telephones, not to mention Wi-Fi networks, all creating tremendous spheres of interference, and thus very severely hampering the use of wireless speakers in your home.
Not only did a wireless speaker system suffer through all of those interferences, but they also would time and again introduce a very perceptible latency delay between the rear and the front speakers that would then throw the sound from the different speaker channels totally out of synch.
Trust me that was as embarrassing as it sounds when friends came over to watch a movie in my home theater, and that began to happen!
Thankfully technology has begun to change in the wireless speaker system “business” and I have found that when technology moves, it tends to move very fast.
Thanks to this fast movement in wireless technology, wireless speaker systems are getting better and better every day, and thus they are becoming more affordable too.
So advanced technology and lower costs have created a larger demand from consumers as the popularity of a wireless speaker system grows well and quite steadily.
Today, the more modern RF-based systems utilize much better transmitters as well as receivers in order to tackle and decrease the interference. Sound quality in a wireless speaker system is now extremely close to true CD-quality.
What used to take a group of men days to set up the old types of wireless speakers, now takes one man but a few minutes, since it usually only entails taking it all out of the box, then connecting it to the AV as well as the speakers, and finally turn it on and listen to the difference compared to your old wireless set! The difference is truly a night and day comparison.
