Pros

The Zune 30Gb Brown is a stylish player with a three-inch screen and a solid feel to it. It is an mp3 player with a kick so to speak, while you can do all the normal things, you would expect with a personal media player such as listen to music, watch videos or store your favorite photo’s with the Zune 30Gb Brown you can also share with other Zune users.

The sharing feature of the Zune 30Gb Brown is its crowning achievement. Now you can share your home videos, photos and even music that you have purchased in the market place.

Simply turn on the sharing feature and you will instantly “see” all the other Zune 30 GB players in the vicinity. A few easy clicks later and you are sending your friend your favorite artist new release.

Extra features are nice but the real test of the Zune 30Gb Brown is sound quality, how does it stack up against the rest? In a side-by-side test with average headphones, the Zune outperformed the other players in the same category. Crisper, clear highs and deep rich lows made this player stand above the rest.

Cons

The Zune 30Gb Brown has many great features, but there are a few cons from the consumer perspective. Oddly enough, one of the cons is also a pro if you can figure that.

The size of the machine makes it less than optimal for jogging and other forms of exercise. Some like the thicker more substantial feel of the player however this aspect is truly in the eye or hand of the beholder.

Headphones that ship with the unit are way under par. This is a common problem amongst mp3 players today but at a price tag of over $300, you would think the manufacturer would take the time to get it right.

Video use and constant skipping through songs significantly affect Battery life. One customer complained that six hours was the best they could get out of the Zune 30Gb Brown with heavy use, to combat this set your player up like you want it initially and then let it play uninterrupted.

Overall

Overall Microsoft has a winner in the Zune 30Gb Brown. It has some wonderful features you cannot get with other players and great sound to boot.

If you have a similar player, you may not want to ditch it for the upgrade but if you are in the market for a new mp3 player this one is nice.
